Of MARA and Bumi Housing
I haven’t wrote in for a while so there are 2 ‘short issues’ I’d liked to write about.
MARA colleges in Malaysia.
The reality of MARA Junior Science colleges(MRSM) are that they are racist. When you have just a 10% quota for ‘other’ races, you’re bound to have integration issues. One of my favorite blogs ‘Education Malaysia‘ recently published an article on the segregation issues at MRSMs throughout the country. link here
I guess the main issue at hand is simply that we try to develop an education system that fosters integration among races, yet the concept of an MRSM is in direct conflict with such a drive. However, our local Politicians keep telling us that the issue of integrating races in Malaysia is being looked into when we have MRSMs throughout the country that are nothing more than select schools for a ‘select’ race.
If you don’t believe, take a look at this blog . It’s written by a Malay student who admits that the Malaysian education system is racist. I salute him for his honesty and integrity.
Bumi Housing
Here’s the deal, if you can afford a Rm300,000 house, a 7% discount amounts to Rm21,000. Now if you can afford this house you don’t deserve the discount. The discount is meant to help the poor, and if you can afford a Rm300,000 house, you’re not poor.
Sure, you can say the constitution does not mention poor or rich and all bumis qualify. But the ‘spirit’ of the NEP was to bridge the gap between races, and if you’re a Malay who can afford a average house, it means you’re average and therefore you should NOT qualify for ANY handouts because you’ve already bridged the gap.
I’ll say this again, the NEP is nothing more than a political ploy to ensure a select number of Bumis get rich, while leaving the others in a lurch. Eventually however it’s the ‘others’ that pay the price, bumi or non-bumi; and the sooner we realize we’re being taken for ride the better.
I’ll like to end by saying that even PAS does not support the 5-7% discount for bumi housing. This means that only UMNO now supports this backward policy of racial discrimination.
That’s my 2 cents. Don’t spend it all in one place.
